Make it mini!An adventure in the world of miniature awesomeness.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04682169081517784346noreply@blogger.comBlogger239125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684635405840954869.post-6629149916764759362015-11-17T17:52:00.001-08:002015-11-17T17:52:19.791-08:00A New VentureI still haven't had a lot of time to work on dollhouse anything. It sucks soooooo much. My schedule has just been filled to the brim, and a lot of the time, overflowing. <br />
<br />
Part of it was from working on a project that will be announced in the Spring. Part of it is the kids in school and volunteering for TWO classrooms and heading up TWO of the committees on PTA. A lot more of the time goes to all the homemaker stuff-sometimes I wish I could just not feed my family and they could all be naked. I feel like 99% of my time is spent doing laundry and being in the kitchen cooking/cleaning.<br />
<br />
The last couple of months, every spare moment has been spent drawing. Doodling if you will. Lots of doodles. Placing lines just right and filling in pages...Then grouping all the pages together to publish a coloring book. My first coloring book!!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GUec1058Puw/VkvW8Yf06yI/AAAAAAAAFk8/qTJhM31MY2w/s1600/ColoredCover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GUec1058Puw/VkvW8Yf06yI/AAAAAAAAFk8/qTJhM31MY2w/s320/ColoredCover.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And now it's available! That's right! I hand drew a coloring book and self published it, and now you can buy it on Amazon.com and Amazon Europe!!! What?!??! Yep! Just in time for Christmas and I know everyone has seen at least one article about the benefits that coloring has on mental health.<br />
<br />
I'm so excited about it. Here are some sample snippets from it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
You can click <span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Barefoot-Doodles-Adult-Coloring-Book/dp/1518709419/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447810643&sr=8-1&keywords=lyssa+bowen">here</a> </span>and buy it directly on Amazon in the USA, or you can click <span style="color: lime;"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Barefoot-Doodles-Adult-Coloring-Book/dp/1518709419/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1447810643&sr=8-1&keywords=lyssa+bowen">here</a> </span>and buy it from Amazon Europe!!! <br />
<br />
I will have to get back into the swing of things at some point. We are planning on moving in the Spring, so I need to cull the horde of stuff. Be on the lookout for that!<br />
<br />
Thank you for all of your love and support. Hope to be back soon! <3 p=""><br />

It was faaaaaaaaabulous. Beaches, pools, sunshine and relaxation. Well, as relaxed as you can get with at least 5 kids running around and screaming at any given time. There was also lots of tequila. HEEEEEYYYYY, margarita!!!<br />
<br />
Returned this week to finish up the dining room furniture makeover. I cannot stand that red cherry finish that seems to be so prevalent in the miniature world. I do, however, love when older furniture is revamped in modern colors and fabrics. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mBKo_2CoLJU/VbpON5Ed6hI/AAAAAAAAFgk/drFSRuuTzuE/s1600/_DSC6339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mBKo_2CoLJU/VbpON5Ed6hI/AAAAAAAAFgk/drFSRuuTzuE/s320/_DSC6339.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
Grey chalk paint-my own mixed color-and grey leaf fabric. I think Brae has used this fabric before, or one very similar. If not, I legitimately chose it because it gave me a happy feeling and reminded me of her. Cue the awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwe.<br />
<br />
I pulled out the red velvet inserts and reupholstered them with the new fabric choice. The chairs were painted with the chalk paint and then sprayed and sealed with Modge Podge Matte. The table was painted in the same way, though I'm not sure about the top. I think it might get a more rustic look-carve in planks of wood and paint it white. I do really like the grey base and the darker grey details.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I_tvkGTmxA0/VbpOPP4g6WI/AAAAAAAAFg0/Q6GvIn5_EkE/s1600/_DSC6364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I_tvkGTmxA0/VbpOPP4g6WI/AAAAAAAAFg0/Q6GvIn5_EkE/s320/_DSC6364.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is where you learn just how important lighting is!!! A few of my lamps died and I haven't had time to replace them. See the difference here?!?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l8eMZfHgFIY/VbpOQ5jpzDI/AAAAAAAAFhA/xsMvN-5uUQ0/s1600/_DSC6370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l8eMZfHgFIY/VbpOQ5jpzDI/AAAAAAAAFhA/xsMvN-5uUQ0/s320/_DSC6370.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The china cabinet was painted eggshell blue, by Krylon. I love spray paint. Makes life so much easier sometimes!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0wbrbSTEN54/VbpONxLa5ZI/AAAAAAAAFgs/OeVSUH5SHPg/s1600/_DSC6351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0wbrbSTEN54/VbpONxLa5ZI/AAAAAAAAFgs/OeVSUH5SHPg/s320/_DSC6351.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9nBFuOkKlk/VbpONhshqgI/AAAAAAAAFgo/BCKyjEOaxBI/s1600/_DSC6357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9nBFuOkKlk/VbpONhshqgI/AAAAAAAAFgo/BCKyjEOaxBI/s320/_DSC6357.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
Then it all dried and I popped it into the house! I'm planning on the window frames next and following that up with some curtains. This corner needs some color.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aRRYdWYdiDU/VbpOQoCm_8I/AAAAAAAAFhE/loSZtcLEKSg/s1600/_DSC6368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aRRYdWYdiDU/VbpOQoCm_8I/AAAAAAAAFhE/loSZtcLEKSg/s320/_DSC6368.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ypH3WEboGRM/VbpORSJ3EHI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/O8H7VVN-4sE/s1600/_DSC6377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ypH3WEboGRM/VbpORSJ3EHI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/O8H7VVN-4sE/s320/_DSC6377.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Oooh. If I leave the table top dark grey, it might need a runner..... :D I love the decorating process in miniature. I really do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

What do we think? I love the transformation here. :D Makes me happy! Onto the windows!!!<br />

I generally look for a way to fix this immediately. Although, I am not always sure how to arrange the furniture in an open concept floor area, I do know that I like how they look. I've always liked the flow and the fact that everything can be seen from one vantage point. No need for mirrors, cameras or running around like a maniac to find out what a noise was. Must be a natural maternal instinct? I digress.<br />
<br />
Back on track! When building this house (last summer) they tell you where to put the additional walls to make the six or seven rooms....yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh, I wouldn't be doing that. This was the first house that I've built that achieving an open concept wasn't going to be a headache! I have one, pretty much, in<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_nA0GlKNs5o/UL_RpmLf-2I/AAAAAAAACuI/r6JRd3CznHw/s1600/Mt+Ollopa+Interior2.jpg"> Mt. Ollopa Lodge</a>, but this would be a more modern take. More Jonathan and Drew Scott approach. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hcqggPsLcbE/VakNMV3miOI/AAAAAAAAFf0/snb2m1GoFwA/s1600/_DSC6332.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="120" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hcqggPsLcbE/VakNMV3miOI/AAAAAAAAFf0/snb2m1GoFwA/s320/_DSC6332.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So where did we leave off last time? The floors! The floors had been done. I love them. So glossy. So colorful. Sooooooo beautiful!!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aLPlW8ftSiM/VWyUvtzvjTI/AAAAAAAAFcs/I99VNhRsoAQ/s1600/IMG_0116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aLPlW8ftSiM/VWyUvtzvjTI/AAAAAAAAFcs/I99VNhRsoAQ/s320/IMG_0116.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I have now put up the wallpaper in the big open room. The majority of it is a pale grey green called "Old Paper" by Jim Holtz and Ranger-the Distress Collection. It has a wonderful texture on it that I just love. The bay window, where the dining area is, features "Weathered Tin" from the same line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KJvPdb1Yvmc/VakNLC9ef2I/AAAAAAAAFfQ/NdASQHeEWlU/s1600/_DSC6327.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KJvPdb1Yvmc/VakNLC9ef2I/AAAAAAAAFfQ/NdASQHeEWlU/s320/_DSC6327.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The door trim and baseboards are all basswood that I painted with Americana White Wash, <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oQEFbeR14Qk/VakNLH5JUCI/AAAAAAAAFfk/NZ2zAQ4YuzQ/s1600/_DSC6328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oQEFbeR14Qk/VakNLH5JUCI/AAAAAAAAFfk/NZ2zAQ4YuzQ/s320/_DSC6328.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PsbCXmDNIpg/VakNLPQTW5I/AAAAAAAAFfg/x3j4eZuLS8w/s1600/_DSC6329.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PsbCXmDNIpg/VakNLPQTW5I/AAAAAAAAFfg/x3j4eZuLS8w/s320/_DSC6329.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wQ94gvi96Ow/VakNMFIoy-I/AAAAAAAAFfw/bjpWyKzJfLU/s1600/_DSC6330.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wQ94gvi96Ow/VakNMFIoy-I/AAAAAAAAFfw/bjpWyKzJfLU/s320/_DSC6330.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The kitchen set is from HBS and I painted the counter tops black granite. I plan on putting in a fun back splash. I also chiseled off all the fake looking kitchen stuff-stove top, fridge stuff, microwave... and plan on adding my own, more realistic looking stuff. All of the kitchen cabinets will be glued into place. I plan on not keeping this monster of a house and building it to be suitable for an older child. I want it to look nice, but still be sturdy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NoEz_L8YBmI/VakNOIrCzLI/AAAAAAAAFgE/GtAgSkYbx7s/s1600/_DSC6339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NoEz_L8YBmI/VakNOIrCzLI/AAAAAAAAFgE/GtAgSkYbx7s/s320/_DSC6339.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
The dining room set is the one from Melissa and Doug-it was a gift from James. I plan on refinishing it. I'm just NOT a huge fan of the red stain and red velvet. Too gaudy for my taste. I'm leaning toward white and grey. The hutch may become an accent piece in a different color, but will also lose it's original red finish.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XPTAxzesRx4/VakNNTjxFtI/AAAAAAAAFf8/_hSd1jZXIAk/s1600/_DSC6334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XPTAxzesRx4/VakNNTjxFtI/AAAAAAAAFf8/_hSd1jZXIAk/s320/_DSC6334.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The only custom furniture I plan for the area is in the living room. These are just place holders in the mean time.<br />
<br />
Now I have furniture to make and paint.... ceilings to address and windows and window frames... and the next room over. I have already chosen the paper for that room. A beautiful shade of blue, from the same line of papers. :] I will actually be using the Jim Holtz line throughout most of the house. Hope to be back soon! Kids start school in 5 weeks!!!!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04682169081517784346noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684635405840954869.post-28785332078275741442015-07-04T09:00:00.000-07:002015-07-04T09:00:01.255-07:00Happy Independence Day! Happy birthday United States!<br />
I have things I'm working on, and hope to share soon. Until then, I finally put up the 4th of July decorations that I got two years ago from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/dalesdreams">Dale Chimel</a>. The house looks festive! Picture quality isn't awesome, but I don't think you guys will mind. ☺️ I wanted I do a little vignette for the holiday with a traditional picnic scene, but never really got motivated. Maybe next year!<br />
<br />
Have a fun and safe weekend, my American friends.<br />

<br />
I know, I know. I am the flake. What can I say. Life got stupid, schedule went nuts, people were demanding, my emotional well being has been on a roller coaster of doom.... and instead of working through it with art, like I have for years-I packed a picnic basket of woes and went into hibernation. But Spring is almost over, summer vacation is days away and I have forced myself awake. Enough wallowing! <br />
<br />
I started off with a major clean and purge of the studio. Finally accepting that there are things that I will just not get to right now, or anytime soon, so better to let them go and be of service to someone else. I also really accepted that I love to make minis and build them, but I don't really want to keep them. That being said, I will be listing the <a href="http://lyssaheartsdollhouses.blogspot.com/2011/06/detail-shots-of-spring-fling-build.html">Art Studio</a>, <a href="http://lyssaheartsdollhouses.blogspot.com/2013/10/greenleaf-spring-fling-2013-reveal.html">the Pool House</a>,<a href="http://lyssaheartsdollhouses.blogspot.com/2013/05/undersized-urbanite-completion.html"> the Tennyson</a> and the Coventry Cottage within the coming week. I also went through the minis and will be listing them on ebay as well. <br />
<br />
I'd like to get my etsy shop up and running again, but there have been MANY changes there while I was in the dark and twisty place so I am totally lost. We will see.<br />
<br />
Since I finally cleaned off my work spaces and could actually do something, I played around with the layout for a bit, until I found something I liked. Haven't decided on the room, other hallway or attic area yet. There are pictures, unedited ones-I was afraid that if I took the time to edit, I wouldn't actually get them up! <br />

And I got back to putting in the floor of the cottage (HTJB). I love this flooring. I really do!<br />
<br />
It's the sample sheet from <a href="http://www.formica.com/en/us/products/180fx/03474">Formica.com's 180fx line</a> glued to some strip board and then cut into half inch wide strips. <div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!</div>
<br />
I'm SO sorry that I have been gone so, so long. I had an incredibly hard time adjusting to both my kids being in school and then had a personal crisis that stuck me into a deep, dark funk....I didn't go into my craft room for a looooooooooong time... if at all the rest of 2014.<br />
<br />
But I am starting to crawl out of it now and I am feeling the creative bug come back.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping to get back into my minis soon, but for now, to ease back in, I've been doing some good old fashioned real life painting. Some of it to try something different and new techniques, and then some to just work through the emotion. <br />

I LOVE that idea. so the backside will be an alley area. Big plans for that!!!<br />

The inside got the walls done and the floor installed...<br />
Now to the hard part of making teeny tiny art supplies! ACK!<br />
<br />
The outside was begging to be grungy...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now to fill it with tiny things! I already made a craft table... but forgot to get a picture of it... and now I am too tired to deal. So, sit in suspense you shall. :D<br />

Back walls are 6". Front door is just over 2" tall. Roof piece is clear acrylic, so I'll be able to put everything in there and then just look at it! Ideas are a churning!!! There is more than enough room for work areas, display areas, sitting area.....muaahahahahahahahaha. I'm going to have so much fun!!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04682169081517784346noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684635405840954869.post-73154818084096725332014-08-05T10:00:00.000-07:002014-08-05T10:00:06.126-07:00Summer Giveaway Winner!First of all, thank you to all that entered and gave suggestions on what I should try next. It seems that there was an overall demand for 1/4 scale art gallery, and plants and food. I will give that a shot next! Just need to get a good 1/4 scale house to work with... I'll see what I can come up with. Maybe a scratch build?!<br />
<br />
I know I am late on the drawing-was busy with life, my husband turning 30 and the dreaded stomach flu. Blarg. That was awful. I'm still on the tail end of it, but I am quite horrid at sitting still... I slept all day yesterday-I think that was enough.<br />
<br />
On to the good stuff! It must be kismet! The winner of the drawing is.....<br />

Okay, so this house is fantastic-IF you get it already assembled. The headaches, shouts and colorful language that this house caused are almost not worth it. Such a pain. It's made out of baltic birch and is meant to be nailed together as well as glued. And you have to do it this way, because the wood just soaks up the glue. AND most of it is too big for clamps. AND the wood is the one, seemingly rare, type that doesn't allow masking tape to stick to it very well. BAAH.<br />
<br />
Anyway, after lots of hoots and hollers, I finally got the thing together (still need to put the roof on though). I started playing around with a layout and wall setup. This house will feature my first open concept living-dining-kitchen area, as well as a laundry room, couple of nooks, large master with sitting area, bathroom, and a large attic area that will be finished-but unfurnished. This baby is just for selling. It will come with some furniture, but not much. It won't be electrified though. I'm trying to set it up to be tolerant of a 9 year old or so. Sturdy furniture and decor, but easily filled with more and an heirloom for the ages.<br />
<br />
I LOVED the flooring in <a href="http://minimodpod.blogspot.com/2014/07/setting-up-in-citadel.html">Cyd's Citadel</a>, so I wrote to her to get the info on the laminate she used. You can order it straight from 180FX. Here is her post with the info on it: <a href="http://minimodpod.blogspot.com/2014/06/petrified-wood-floors.html">180FX Samples for you</a>. We both used the sample called petrified wood. It looks amazing. I love, love, love it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u15Z2hPnHLg/U9G2IBxKoKI/AAAAAAAAFQg/dg0M_71ZWK8/s1600/_DSC3024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u15Z2hPnHLg/U9G2IBxKoKI/AAAAAAAAFQg/dg0M_71ZWK8/s1600/_DSC3024.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
The stairs are not permanently attached yet. I have to pick a wallpaper. I'm thinking of going with grey and maybe a board and batten bottom third. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oEkxTggEKC0/U9G2Ig_jUMI/AAAAAAAAFQk/M-qrxBNzmL8/s1600/_DSC3027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oEkxTggEKC0/U9G2Ig_jUMI/AAAAAAAAFQk/M-qrxBNzmL8/s1600/_DSC3027.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
The balusters also need to be painted... I'm thinking good ol' Bittersweet Chocolate, by Americana.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rPxMwn42DZw/U9G2IjCG-WI/AAAAAAAAFQs/_9qo8a2FB8Y/s1600/_DSC3030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rPxMwn42DZw/U9G2IjCG-WI/AAAAAAAAFQs/_9qo8a2FB8Y/s1600/_DSC3030.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
Look how fancy!<br />

I will be back with more updates, soon! And it looks like my side project is going to be a quarter scale art studio. Along with some food and plants. :) Thanks for the input, community!<br />
<br />
Remember to enter the giveaway, if you haven't yet! <a href="http://lyssaheartsdollhouses.blogspot.com/2014/07/summer-giveaway.html">Do that here.</a>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04682169081517784346noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684635405840954869.post-79342545600752594712014-07-16T15:09:00.003-07:002014-07-16T15:09:38.418-07:00Recent MinisSo I have a little collection of things that I have been working on recently-and a few projects that I have been gathering ideas for. One of them involves eating a LOT of baked beans. :)<br />
<br />
Anyway, I thought I would share a few of them with you all-and then I have to hop back to it. I have things that I am working on for friends-and I am so, so behind on that!!! <br />
<br />
A refinished chair! I love it now! It used to be a mahogany finish with blue "leather" cushions. I pulled all those off, recovered them in this fun chevron print, and painted the chair white. Then I attached all the cushions again and distressed the wood a teeeeeeny bit. LOVE.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MP53NyBW9Zk/U8bz0H1eo2I/AAAAAAAAFO4/FmirOtsmmIQ/s1600/_DSC3012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MP53NyBW9Zk/U8bz0H1eo2I/AAAAAAAAFO4/FmirOtsmmIQ/s1600/_DSC3012.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D-v-Ae9Pl28/U8bz0FDSU3I/AAAAAAAAFO8/JPcCaRrWNH0/s1600/_DSC3013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D-v-Ae9Pl28/U8bz0FDSU3I/AAAAAAAAFO8/JPcCaRrWNH0/s1600/_DSC3013.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CkTQPhgZxGc/U8bz0FvtLFI/AAAAAAAAFPA/8I7KG7bQfpo/s1600/_DSC3014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CkTQPhgZxGc/U8bz0FvtLFI/AAAAAAAAFPA/8I7KG7bQfpo/s1600/_DSC3014.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I did a couple tiny pieces. I'm doing some experimenting with watercolor and ink.... working on a children's book in real life and I think I like this style for illustrating it....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2DL4sbpDUcA/U8bz12tYvII/AAAAAAAAFPQ/lf8W8tMaGp8/s1600/_DSC3015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2DL4sbpDUcA/U8bz12tYvII/AAAAAAAAFPQ/lf8W8tMaGp8/s1600/_DSC3015.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Bunnies. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C5RmQdSFMPo/U8bz2lEHtHI/AAAAAAAAFPY/NBTEutzHFnE/s1600/_DSC3017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C5RmQdSFMPo/U8bz2lEHtHI/AAAAAAAAFPY/NBTEutzHFnE/s1600/_DSC3017.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
And then I ordered this tub a bit ago, from Ebay, to refinish and eventually use in my modernized Beacon Hill. I want it to look like one of the refurbished Victorians that you see on HGTV, using all the old parts, but with modern finishes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mfn5U4ze-WU/U8bz22_XXAI/AAAAAAAAFPc/CbWSukvFAP4/s1600/_DSC3020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mfn5U4ze-WU/U8bz22_XXAI/AAAAAAAAFPc/CbWSukvFAP4/s1600/_DSC3020.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
The plan is to turn this brass tub into a more of a cast iron with ceramic interior look. :) Very excited, I am.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-39rQeFT2q-k/U8bz3-2q7wI/AAAAAAAAFPo/R73eGogf_aM/s1600/_DSC3021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-39rQeFT2q-k/U8bz3-2q7wI/AAAAAAAAFPo/R73eGogf_aM/s1600/_DSC3021.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
And that's all I have for right now. Currently, the debate is on which kit to open....or if I should get started on my Creatin' Contest kit already...... decisions, decisions......<br />
<br />
And in case you didn't hear, I'm doing a 4 year blogging giveaway! See the details, here:<br />

Good grief! What a ride it has been. And I have learned, so, so much from my fellow miniaturists.<br />
<br />
I want to give back with a small giveaway. It will start now, end on July 31st at 11:59 pm (EST) and I will announce a winner on August 1st.<br />
All you have to do is:<br />
<br />
1) Be a follower of the blog-if you aren't right now, then join!<br />
2) Comment on this post and tell me something that you would like to see me try to make in the coming months.<br />
3)Share it and pass it on! Link it to your blog or other social media site. This isn't necessary, but our little hobby is very much word of mouth for learning and discovering other artists.<br />
<br />
This particular giveaway will include a multi color rocking chaise, basket, 3 books, 1 piece of art, a roll or toilet paper and a roll of paper towel.<br />
<br />

I started to make the tiny books, but they are so little that they can sort of make you go cross eyed real quick.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K6_GwAfKhmE/U6yMZ6sKspI/AAAAAAAAFMI/vkBqbH29u6I/s1600/_DSC2748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K6_GwAfKhmE/U6yMZ6sKspI/AAAAAAAAFMI/vkBqbH29u6I/s1600/_DSC2748.JPG" height="320" width="276" /></a></div>
<br />
I got a board from Michaels to use as a base and had the landscaping stuff on hand. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t7SyzR3A2rI/U6yMYWpKMUI/AAAAAAAAFL8/VMjcDyZ7xH8/s1600/_DSC2744.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t7SyzR3A2rI/U6yMYWpKMUI/AAAAAAAAFL8/VMjcDyZ7xH8/s1600/_DSC2744.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
The shingles are made from 150 grit sand paper and painted in washes of Thicket Green (Folkart) and Lamp Black (Folkart) and Bittersweet Chocolate (Americana). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pCxpoLV20EE/U6yMawqF0eI/AAAAAAAAFMU/c7DhxszSNtQ/s1600/_DSC2750.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pCxpoLV20EE/U6yMawqF0eI/AAAAAAAAFMU/c7DhxszSNtQ/s1600/_DSC2750.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
The stone path was painted with watercolor and defined with colored pencil. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qMbKsM7qXy8/U6yMYR-JZ9I/AAAAAAAAFMs/QGOSLRxvUGY/s1600/_DSC2743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qMbKsM7qXy8/U6yMYR-JZ9I/AAAAAAAAFMs/QGOSLRxvUGY/s1600/_DSC2743.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
The grass is from Scenic Express, and it's the same grass that I use on my 1:12 builds, but I shaved it down with clippers. :) The evergreen trees are made from green tree stuff... not sure what it is exactly. It's leftover from another project and can be purchased at HobbyTown USA for a few dollars.<br />
<br />
The tree is floral wire, wrapped in floral tape and then painted. I used the rest of the green tree stuff to make a base for the leaves and then filled the tree in with Green Ground Cover that I purchased at Michaels for $3.00. <br />

I am so glad that you enjoyed my last post. It shed new light for me, too. There might be hope that I try to recover my Highland now.... perhaps.... o.O That will certainly be an undertaking. We will see though... it's not like I don't have a hoarders stash of kits (what miniaturist doesn't?) I have no less than 10 waiting. *maniacal laughing* We all have a serious problem, don't we?!<br />
<br />
New items on Etsy! I finally finished up little things I had been working on for ages....and got them listed. Yay!<br />

<br />
I have some other stuff to finish up and list, too. But my shop will be going on vacation soon while I go on vacation myself.<br />
<br />
Here and there, I have also been working on a quarter scale house. It is the prize mini version from the Greenleaf Spring Fling 2011. I am going to turn it into a bookstore for my sister. She is a true bibliophile and just graduated from college last month. I thought it would be a nice "welcome to true sucky adulthood gift." LOL.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-avCB1_CKogI/U58SsTQS71I/AAAAAAAAFKs/ARXPGklUPPc/s1600/_DSC2538.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-avCB1_CKogI/U58SsTQS71I/AAAAAAAAFKs/ARXPGklUPPc/s1600/_DSC2538.JPG" height="200" width="133" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bnD4l5BQxd4/U58SsC0Ff7I/AAAAAAAAFKw/XKzVm9rippE/s1600/_DSC2539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bnD4l5BQxd4/U58SsC0Ff7I/AAAAAAAAFKw/XKzVm9rippE/s1600/_DSC2539.JPG" height="200" width="133" /></a></div>
<br />
It's so hard to work on small stuff! My hand is like a big, drunk giant in there. Oi. I need to cut up some sandpaper for the shingles.... 300 grit that I will paint a green color. They will go on in diamond pattern. Click on the pictures to see them bigger!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Quarter scale books. What the heck was I thinking?!?! Too late to turn back now, though.<br />
<br />
I will be *hopefully* getting a giveaway up before I close up for a bit. Post it on Wednesday, and send stuff out after the 4th of July. <br />
<br />
Until then!!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t1.0-9/10329032_569240146527150_6750236736257961881_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t1.0-9/10329032_569240146527150_6750236736257961881_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I so NEEDED to see this!! There are so many times, that I, myself, compare my work to the work of my wildly talented friends and I feel a bit deflated... but when I go back and look at MY OWN work from 4 years ago, when I started, I feel like a rockstar!<br />
<br />
I started in June 2010 with a few little bits here and there for my mother-in-law's Westivlle and then finally started on my own Coventry Cottage. I dove in, head first, without really reading any instructions and right out of the gate was ready to bash and smash.<br />
<br />
Here is the first house:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/uploads/1275654422/gallery_5565_4199_48734.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/uploads/1275654422/gallery_5565_4199_48734.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Such a mess!!!! There are things that I loved about this original house.... like the stonework and such...but where was my brain when I picked these colors?? Except for the Bittersweet Chocolate. That was love at first use. ♥ I dabbled with different things in this house, but didn't really pay too much attention to realism or final finish, nor did I have ANY sort of finesse....<br />
<br />
And then I moved onto the NEXT house.... my Artply Highland that I found on Craigslist for a mere $20. And it was in sad, sad shape. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/uploads/1275927269/gallery_5565_4219_66164.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/uploads/1275927269/gallery_5565_4219_66164.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
This was the first house I took my time on. And I took so much time on it, that I ended up starting other projects and got totally over this one. Was just ready to move on... and here is where I left off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/uploads/1287898202/gallery_5565_4337_78680.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/uploads/1287898202/gallery_5565_4337_78680.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Truth be told, I would love to find another one of these and start from scratch. I'm pretty confident, with what I have learned in my 4 years so far, I could make this house a beauty. It really is a gorgeous, gorgeous house. I'm ready to pass this one on to someone else, for now, though. Let someone else discover untapped potential and love for something new. :)<br />
<br />
And now, 4 years later, I have loads more experience, have won awards and contests and have been published in a foreign magazine! Yay perseverance!!!<br />

In case the point was missed, this post wasn't for me to brag about how awesome I am (even though I totally am over flowing with coolness), but to share with those just starting out that might think they aren't good enough to keep going or to compete with the likes of us others.... NEITHER. WAS. I. But just like anything else in life, it takes time, dedication and PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE.<br />
<br />
And this is for any new skill that you will try in this vast world of teeny tiny things. I need to remember that when I want to try to flock my own animals. So far, the early ones have been sccaaaaaaaaaarrryyyyyyyyyy. ;)<br />
<br />
Remember:<br />

Cyd, at <a href="http://minimodpod.blogspot.com/2014/05/undersized-urbanite-groovy-70spad-is.html">Mini Mod Pod</a>, was the winner of the same category. Her retro A-Frame is inspired. I love every little detail and decision that she made in that build. So gorgeous. And modern without feeling cold. LOVE. IT. Congratulations, Cyd!!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I can't get over the porch. I love the brick posts. I had gone for a jog in a close neighborhood and saw a house that looked very much like this and it was love at first sight. ♥</div>

I love having these two resin dolls. They are perfect for checking scale of items. And are great for weighing down cushions that I'm not sure I want to keep there... HAHA!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The mirror is made out of 1" square mirrors from the craft store, and trimmed out with wood I had left over from last years Spring Fling. The hall table is made out of an eight light window, some porch trim and wood scraps. I saw something similar in a design magazine and LOVED it. </div>

The tall sticks in the pink vase are a gift from Jane. I made the yellow ones in the orange pot. The blue pot was purchased from Brae Oktober for my Spring Fling. The newspaper was a gift from Jazzi. The laser cut chandelier is from Michaels.<br />

The art work was hand painted and the print on the right is just a bit of scrap book paper glued to mat board. The pillows are a mixture of made and purchased. The black pillows in the back are actually play scale, but are perfect for European pillows in 1:12!<br />

This room has a lot of handmade stuff in it. Good craft stuff is hard to find, and when you do find it, it can be costly. I don't have time for that! Some of my miniature water color paintings are in the corner along with some rolled up canvas and paper.</div>

This shelf is made from the top portion of the Michaels hutch used to make the tv shelf in the man cave. I found all the art supply printies at Jim's Printables. There was a bit of tedium in cutting up paper and fabric and gluing printies together, but that time spent is what makes the scene! The pencil sharpener, which I adore, is also from a lot I purchased on ebay.<br />

There was a GIANT lot of kitchen goodies on etsy in a totally random shop. I bought it of course, and most of the goodies in here, came from there- Ivory soap, yellow canisters, sponge, bottle brush.... The drawer pulls on the cabinets are staples and the knobs are beads and headpins that I painted silver.<br />

I left the glass off the cabinets since I made them non-opening. Want to be able to get my accessories out if need be!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Probably my favorite corner of the kitchen. I love the pot rack over the stove (I intend to add a spice shelf directly under it at some point). The tiny Kitchenaid SLAYS me. Love it. It came in a funky creme color, so I painted it Apple Tart. <br />

So I just cut/sanded/glued all the kitchen counters and cabinets. To save on time, none of the doors are working. Neither are the drawers. Bottom cabinets are made out of foam core board and mat board. The uppers are made out of mat board. <br />

This is the last time you will see the kitchen. I need one of the rooms to be a surprise!!! Even though it still needs to be painted, accessorized and hardware installed, I already ADORE this kitchen. Freaking LOVE it. I love when you are going for a design and it goes just the way you want it to. YES!!!!!!!!<br />
<br />
Okay, I will temper my excitement. Obviously, this room will also hold my trademark over the top detailing. I have some accessories on the way. Boing boing! To leave you with some thought, I will be using Snow White, Dolphin Grey, Turquoise and Lime Green in this kitchen. *grin* It'll be awesome.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04682169081517784346noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684635405840954869.post-3752493246654771282014-04-20T17:35:00.000-07:002014-04-20T17:35:16.391-07:00Man, Cave of Wonders: An Undersized Urbanite UpdateAdding these last few details was so much fun! The tween room is finished! I will be adding molding before the deadline... and if I finish the punch needle rug by then (HA!) then I will add that, too. It's busy and loud and fun and I love it. :)<br />

So what do we think? Can I pull it off in time??!!<br />
<br />
The porch posts are a long and tedious task, but I am already very happy with how they are turning out. No pictures of those until I am done!<br />
<br />
Still a lot to do, so better get back to it!<br />

It's been a while! I still have doubts about being able to finish on time, but I am glad that I at least got some time this week, so far, to work on my house. My apologies for the pictures. They were snapped quickly and unedited. Ain't nobody got time for that! Haha.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I love the classic paint job that I went with. So fabulous. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xV4gaZatxCg/U0Voz9_7G4I/AAAAAAAAEvw/CswZzSPXGuQ/s1600/_DSC0759.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xV4gaZatxCg/U0Voz9_7G4I/AAAAAAAAEvw/CswZzSPXGuQ/s1600/_DSC0759.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
Dry fitted the porch on, too, and slid in the patches for the roof. This is such a great house! I adore it. I saw some pretty interesting designs and architectural things on a recent run with the dog, and I have something fun planned for the porch posts. :) There is still a decision to be made about whether or not I will use the railings....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UwOcsL1Ci1I/U0Voz-gVWLI/AAAAAAAAEv4/RbzuJ6AugyY/s1600/_DSC0760.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UwOcsL1Ci1I/U0Voz-gVWLI/AAAAAAAAEv4/RbzuJ6AugyY/s1600/_DSC0760.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
I also managed to get papers replaced, trim cut and the attic area prepped to become the craft room.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1SnTlZzL_BY/U0Voz-O2dSI/AAAAAAAAEv0/g_NeeRod0Qw/s1600/_DSC0751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1SnTlZzL_BY/U0Voz-O2dSI/AAAAAAAAEv0/g_NeeRod0Qw/s1600/_DSC0751.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There should be more updates soon. I have a better work space now, with better access. And I think I finally have a schedule that allows for it. :) Not too much time left now! Less than 30 days!</div>
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04682169081517784346noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684635405840954869.post-89278058850461305902014-02-21T20:43:00.002-08:002014-02-21T20:48:47.624-08:00Kitchen and Hallway Started: An Undersized Urbanite UpdateThe past few weeks were spent working on the kitchen plans. There were several interruptions as one by one, the family came down with the stomach flu. Eeeewwww.<br />
<br />
I bounced back and forth between the layout for the kitchen (sketches), the floor (craft sticks again) and the oh so very exciting subway tiles. <br />
<br />
First thing was to choose paper for the walls- Doveflower by Bazzil.<br />
Then I worked on the layout (down farther in the post) and then measured out the areas for where the subway tile will be going. The following picture shows an area for the fridge (which I will have to build for it to be proper scale), the counter and the tiled area around the window.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KLISubxwOWU/UwgjeJ0c5wI/AAAAAAAAEsY/1CwXoP5DMEY/s1600/_DSC9336.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KLISubxwOWU/UwgjeJ0c5wI/AAAAAAAAEsY/1CwXoP5DMEY/s1600/_DSC9336.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Subway tiles are 3" x 6" in real life, so these are 1/4" x 1/2" in scale. I drew out a whole mess of them on a sheet of white card stock.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IZ1Ay2xSodI/Uwgjd3jtm7I/AAAAAAAAEsU/Wts4pPHKkZU/s1600/_DSC9337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IZ1Ay2xSodI/Uwgjd3jtm7I/AAAAAAAAEsU/Wts4pPHKkZU/s1600/_DSC9337.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
I used a cork backed metal straightedge and a brand new exacto knife to cut them out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yXpn7MEw2nU/Uwgjdx9qAYI/AAAAAAAAEsc/64pSgtyxFA0/s1600/_DSC9338.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yXpn7MEw2nU/Uwgjdx9qAYI/AAAAAAAAEsc/64pSgtyxFA0/s1600/_DSC9338.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
This took forevvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvver!!!!!! And I needed a lot of them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4DpN5-5vMVs/Uwgjfjfgh8I/AAAAAAAAEss/wFyRNpuj7_A/s1600/_DSC9340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4DpN5-5vMVs/Uwgjfjfgh8I/AAAAAAAAEss/wFyRNpuj7_A/s1600/_DSC9340.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I made a point to make guidelines on the paper where I would be putting the tiles. Subway tiles are very uniform and straight and tightly grouted. They couldn't be all wonky....though in some spots, it seemed unavoidable. :/<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Sl103JWO0s4/Uwgjgd_p8JI/AAAAAAAAEs0/pVOFCNF7fUA/s1600/_DSC9341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Sl103JWO0s4/Uwgjgd_p8JI/AAAAAAAAEs0/pVOFCNF7fUA/s1600/_DSC9341.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Gluing gluing gluing.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V0cs9iMeZSM/Uwgjgn552aI/AAAAAAAAEs4/JQjyYop1js8/s1600/_DSC9342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V0cs9iMeZSM/Uwgjgn552aI/AAAAAAAAEs4/JQjyYop1js8/s1600/_DSC9342.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
So many tiles!!!! When they were all done, to get them all the same color and to "grout" the tiles, I painted the whole area with Snow White (Americana) acrylic paint- two coats and then sealed with Triple Thick.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yUU23p4v0To/UwgjhdP_0HI/AAAAAAAAEtE/d5EcnkKIX4E/s1600/_DSC9343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yUU23p4v0To/UwgjhdP_0HI/AAAAAAAAEtE/d5EcnkKIX4E/s1600/_DSC9343.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is my planned full wall!!! Mat board and card stock to the rescue!!! The plan is to do white uppers with glass fronts. A paneled hood. White subway tiles for backsplash. Some open shelves. Copper pots. Grey lowers. White and grey granite counter top. And I will "attempt" a stainless steel stove... :D<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-msrCItTppBs/UwgjjFENnyI/AAAAAAAAEtM/MRaacNbIIA0/s1600/_DSC9346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-msrCItTppBs/UwgjjFENnyI/AAAAAAAAEtM/MRaacNbIIA0/s1600/_DSC9346.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
And here is the floor layout... although I ended up nixing the dishwasher and that counter space. You'll note that there isn't really a plan for the other wall.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jnNx-VzZK5E/UwgjjenX7OI/AAAAAAAAEtQ/1QCowuVhRGM/s1600/_DSC9347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jnNx-VzZK5E/UwgjjenX7OI/AAAAAAAAEtQ/1QCowuVhRGM/s1600/_DSC9347.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
Because I added this fun round pass through!!!! It also has subway tiles there... and I have some plans for some open shelving.... :D<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kzwnhr9vTHg/Uwgjj8AoPBI/AAAAAAAAEtY/IXt55WljLn8/s1600/_DSC9351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kzwnhr9vTHg/Uwgjj8AoPBI/AAAAAAAAEtY/IXt55WljLn8/s1600/_DSC9351.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
I did the flooring in the same manner as the bedroom, but ran the wood the other direction. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aDLzL_JCqMM/UwgjlcDY4xI/AAAAAAAAEtk/FtpI0t1G_BE/s1600/_DSC9354.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aDLzL_JCqMM/UwgjlcDY4xI/AAAAAAAAEtk/FtpI0t1G_BE/s1600/_DSC9354.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
So pretty. Love this floor. Love love love. I get this look by being really picky about the sticks. I get a good mix of smooth ones and rough ones.... and then I also get plain ones as well as ones that have some color variation and grain to them. Install, sand with 60 and then with 300, gently wipe off surface dust and then stain and seal. :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C3LKeEiFEno/Uwgjmvot-VI/AAAAAAAAEtw/bl5VoW4octU/s1600/_DSC9356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C3LKeEiFEno/Uwgjmvot-VI/AAAAAAAAEtw/bl5VoW4octU/s1600/_DSC9356.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The subway tile here appears grungy.... but it isn't. It's really hard to photograph though... and I can't wait to see it with all the cupboards!! The hallway is perfect compliment to it, too. The front door is an upgrade and the wallpaper is Olive by Recollections.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qD8Xv7GVGio/Uwgjq133lJI/AAAAAAAAEuc/AVssMSJ5jvs/s1600/_DSC9367.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qD8Xv7GVGio/Uwgjq133lJI/AAAAAAAAEuc/AVssMSJ5jvs/s1600/_DSC9367.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This "tile" floor is actually some wallpaper sample I had that I just cut and glued down and sealed with a thick coat of Triple Thick.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DkMwsHpITX4/UwgjmHbkQrI/AAAAAAAAEts/bKmln7DCmSM/s1600/_DSC9355.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DkMwsHpITX4/UwgjmHbkQrI/AAAAAAAAEts/bKmln7DCmSM/s1600/_DSC9355.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
I also dressed the bed (but still working on pillows)...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B2r-q96JpOk/UwgjnRfxFHI/AAAAAAAAEt8/ftBxiIZt53g/s1600/_DSC9357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B2r-q96JpOk/UwgjnRfxFHI/AAAAAAAAEt8/ftBxiIZt53g/s1600/_DSC9357.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
And added nightstands. These are painted and then have fancy headpins as the new hardware. They still need a coat of satin varnish though.<br />

And I made a chair for the corner. It is based on my own real life chair in my room. It's by Saba Italia, from the Chance line. Mine is purple, but I liked this subtle floral print for the mini one. It will get a pillow and blanket draped across it before the build is finished....<br />

I hope you have enjoyed what I worked on lately!!! More work on the kitchen coming up soon. And stuff for the hallway, too. ♥<br />

And I got the paper put up. The combination is just as beautiful as I thought it would be!!<br />
<br />
The walls are "Smokey" scrapbook paper, made by Bazzil. And the floor is made out of craft sticks, and then stained Special Walnut by Minwax. I've used this color in a ton of other builds. Most notably on the exterior facade of Mt Ollopa Lodge. :)<br />

<br />
So pretty!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1M-5RplP7io/UvvWrAxdfqI/AAAAAAAAEro/S0NlQ1m8umw/s1600/_DSC9179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1M-5RplP7io/UvvWrAxdfqI/AAAAAAAAEro/S0NlQ1m8umw/s1600/_DSC9179.JPG" height="320" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
But, it looks like I will be redoing one wall. HATE when this happens. And there is no way to fix it really, other than pulling off the paper and putting on a new piece. Booooooooooooo!!! And this is after I tried to smoosh out the air. Boo. Poo. RAWRG!!!<br />
<br />

<br />
I love, love, LOVE the canning jar lights that have been seen all over <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=canning%20jar%20lights">Pinterest</a> and Facebook. Love them. Seriously. In like an obsessive way.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://covetliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Vintage-Clear-Canning-Jar-lights-169.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://covetliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Vintage-Clear-Canning-Jar-lights-169.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Image c/o covetliving.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://st.houzz.com/simgs/9041c6d10e017b58_4-6966/eclectic-pendant-lighting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://st.houzz.com/simgs/9041c6d10e017b58_4-6966/eclectic-pendant-lighting.jpg" height="320" width="247" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Image c/o houzz.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div>
So I puttered around my craft room, wondering if I had the things to make them.... and I did! Hooray for those little nail decal jar things at Dollar Tree. :) Woooooooooo!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
I also had a few packs of battery operated LED lights that I bought off of ebay. This particular set was 4 lights for a 9volt battery. Love them. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I pulled out three and opened a package of the nail decal thingies and dumped out the jars. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WjckGc59ivo/Uvg2-8p57DI/AAAAAAAAEp8/q2-CV6mmn-A/s1600/_DSC9135.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WjckGc59ivo/Uvg2-8p57DI/AAAAAAAAEp8/q2-CV6mmn-A/s1600/_DSC9135.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vPcQVvVu9_Q/Uvg2-2s5ktI/AAAAAAAAEp4/ThchE-OLBN4/s1600/_DSC9136.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vPcQVvVu9_Q/Uvg2-2s5ktI/AAAAAAAAEp4/ThchE-OLBN4/s1600/_DSC9136.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ceDQ4yPJo4o/Uvg2-rye6kI/AAAAAAAAEp0/UZd1vHQ3eNc/s1600/_DSC9137.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ceDQ4yPJo4o/Uvg2-rye6kI/AAAAAAAAEp0/UZd1vHQ3eNc/s1600/_DSC9137.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Then, it was time to prepare the rubber plug. I used an exacto knife to cut a hole in the top big enough to feed the wires through and the bit of heat shrink tubing that was on them. I will later on paint this all to look like metal and I didn't find a thing to attach them to-just rammed them up through the ceiling for right now. What? I work on a tight schedule thanks to kiddos. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZdqRMMgaH5E/Uvg3BlF1yiI/AAAAAAAAErE/efnimzxWazo/s1600/_DSC9141.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZdqRMMgaH5E/Uvg3BlF1yiI/AAAAAAAAErE/efnimzxWazo/s1600/_DSC9141.JPG" height="228" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nuAXQNOlbEM/Uvg2_iu2a9I/AAAAAAAAEqQ/b5QnjKG2-HQ/s1600/_DSC9147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nuAXQNOlbEM/Uvg2_iu2a9I/AAAAAAAAEqQ/b5QnjKG2-HQ/s1600/_DSC9147.JPG" height="320" width="300" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Anyway, once the light was through, I wired it up to see if it worked right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qu5IJUnL1EU/Uvg2_31KJXI/AAAAAAAAEqY/WiCQL310J_A/s1600/_DSC9149.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qu5IJUnL1EU/Uvg2_31KJXI/AAAAAAAAEqY/WiCQL310J_A/s1600/_DSC9149.JPG" height="320" width="281" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VIp1ko5tvPo/Uvg3AFEObFI/AAAAAAAAEqg/W6ylnTThQz4/s1600/_DSC9151.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VIp1ko5tvPo/Uvg3AFEObFI/AAAAAAAAEqg/W6ylnTThQz4/s1600/_DSC9151.JPG" height="320" width="208" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Success!! But, too blue.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cNUVcL1mcGQ/Uvg3AQ4v7tI/AAAAAAAAEqo/0X5bgSMKNds/s1600/_DSC9155.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cNUVcL1mcGQ/Uvg3AQ4v7tI/AAAAAAAAEqo/0X5bgSMKNds/s1600/_DSC9155.JPG" height="283" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Off to find Gallery Glass and paint.... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k8EtOs6uxLY/Uvg3A6iqNpI/AAAAAAAAEqw/oHVYJk1rPnE/s1600/_DSC9156.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k8EtOs6uxLY/Uvg3A6iqNpI/AAAAAAAAEqw/oHVYJk1rPnE/s1600/_DSC9156.JPG" height="320" width="199" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Mixed them together a little bit and then dabbed the mixture on the LED.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4OWdnxFTozw/Uvg3Bh2cxJI/AAAAAAAAEq8/5DKgzdWirfY/s1600/_DSC9159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4OWdnxFTozw/Uvg3Bh2cxJI/AAAAAAAAEq8/5DKgzdWirfY/s1600/_DSC9159.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Much better. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then make the other two and temporarily install them to take pictures. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TwbN8-rujeU/Uvg3B_rgQvI/AAAAAAAAErA/nbXzsMyQ0MQ/s1600/_DSC9162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TwbN8-rujeU/Uvg3B_rgQvI/AAAAAAAAErA/nbXzsMyQ0MQ/s1600/_DSC9162.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k3LlSRnrgXg/Uvg3CXxIv7I/AAAAAAAAErM/W6OD_2OrMpo/s1600/_DSC9163.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k3LlSRnrgXg/Uvg3CXxIv7I/AAAAAAAAErM/W6OD_2OrMpo/s1600/_DSC9163.JPG" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Next time you see these, they will look more like canning jars and maybe even have chains going up to the medallion on the ceiling. The medallion I still have to make.... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But for now, it's time to get my fix of Walkers and plan out the kitchen. Eeeeeeeeeee!!!!</div>
